The transition needs commitment from all sides, especially from entrepreneurs and enterprises. European and Canadian civil society groups urge legislators to reject CETA

PRESS RELEASE Over 450 public interest groups from across Europe and Canada today urged legislators to vote against the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). They joined forces to defend people and planet against the threats posed by the EU-Canada agreement, which still needs to be ratified by the European Parliament. Should EU parliamentarians give the trade deal the green light, ratification votes in EU member states would follow. In an open letter sent to legislators today, the groups express serious concerns about CETA, the ratification of which could weaken protections for workers and the environment, and provide foreign investors with extreme tools to attack public interest regulations. Binding targets for resource usage necessary for a circular economy | Delegation presents joint positions to Schally (DG ENVI)

Brussels, 10.09.2015: On Wednesday, September 9th, representatives of associations for sustainable business and companies met Hugo-Maria Schally, Head of the Unit for Eco-Innovation and Circular Economy (EC Directorate-General for the Environment). A joint manifesto on the circular economy was presented and discussed. UnternehmensGrün was part of the delegation. The basis of the discussion was the European Parliament’s resolution on the circular economy, which was passed in July 2015. Member states are expected to recycle 70% of municipal waste and 80% of packaging by 2030. A binding target to improve resource efficiency by 30% until 2030 did not, however, find a majority.
